Welcome to Casa Pita Caminha
Located in the main square, this historic building has been for over 350 years one of the most famous landmarks of Caminha.
The urban manor house was built between 1649 and 1652, still belongs to the same family and shares with the guests a slice of their Minho heritage while experiencing a confortable and exclusive stay in this village's historic centre.
Ideal for those who visit Caminha and the Alto Minho, four centuries old Casa Pita is literally only a few steps away from restaurants, bars, coffee shops, local commerce shops, and the main tourist attractions in the village.
Situated by the river, just near the sea and the mountains, and close to the north Portuguese border, Caminha offers a wonderfull coast line with white sandy beaches, culture and folclore, history and nature, just a short walk away.
Surrounded by more than 4.000m2 of gardens, private pateos, and swimming pool area, Casa Pita provides three types of lodging: the APARTMENT for eight guests, the TOWER for four and the STUDIO for two people.
Casa Pita hosts up to 14 guests in a total indoor area of 330m2. All with independent entrance, free parking and total privacy.
THE APARTMENT
The APARTMENT with 180m2 on the second floor of the main house has quiet views to the pateo, garden, and to Arga Mountain, two double bed suites and two two beds rooms with a large bathroom, living/dining room and fully equiped kitchen. Suited for both families or groups of friends, it hosts 8 guests.
THE TOWER
The TOWER hosts 4 guests into a totally different vertical experience. The four story building has one double bed suite, one two beds suite, a living room that opens to the lawns, a small kitchen with meal area and the belvedere on the top, with 360 degrees views of the mountain, Spain, Minho and Coura river mouths and all of Caminha and its surrounding valley.
On the belvedere a closed area with a confortable sofa allows you to rest or read while enjoying the view. Or you may go out to the terrace for sunbathing in our sun loungers.

THE STUDIO
In the ground level, the STUDIO is suited for two, with a double bed room, bathroom and a small living room with kitchenette. It can be rented separatly, or as a complement of the TOWER and/or the APARTMENT.
Access to the property is made in the front of the main house by an independent entrance in Caminha's main square and by the back gate through the vehicle's entrance and private parking.
Due to the architecture of these ancient buildings both the APARTMENT and the TOWER have stairs. Only the STUDIO is at ground level.
Cable TV, free WiFi and private parking are also available to all guests.
THE PROPERTY
The garden is framed with high trees providing privacy. Chetnuts, fruit trees, some of the most ancient camellia trees in the country, and many flowers and bushes colour the landscape by the pool and in the flowers garden.
The ancient main pateo is also filled with hydrangeas and wisteria since early spring.
The pool with a safety fence for children, a jasmine pergola meal area with stone tables and benches, a kitchen and a bathroom, provide all the confort for restful days by the pool.
In the lawns by the tower you will find a barbacue porch - where an old olive oil mill used to stay - with other outdoor meal area for 16 people and a toilet.
Animals are not allowed and all lodgings are non smokers only.
Caminha, the Fair by the sea
Primitive human settlement ever since the stone age, Caminha was successively occupied by the Romans, the Lusitanos, the Suevos and raided by Vikings. This natural northern shore port in the bed of Minho River has been an important stronghold for many years before the foundation of Portugal and throughout the country’s history.
Owing its development to fishing and sea trade since the XII century, Caminha became a more and more relevant bastion in the northwest border. Three centuries later, the first members of the Pita family came from Galiza’s thorp Ortigueira and settled in this village by the sea.
The village is well known by its cultural and artistic heritage with many attractions such as Igreja Matriz and the Clock Tower dated back as the XV century, the Igreja da Misericórdia, the main square fountain, and King Afonso III’s stronghold, from the XVI century and also by Ínsua’s Monastery dated from de XVII century, as Casa Pita itself.
Also striking is the natural environment of this region with the two rivers beds, Minho and Coura’s, Arga Mountains, internationally renowned Minho and Moledo’s white sandy beaches, also referred to as some the most beautiful in Europe. Several belvederes nearby are very much worth the visit as well as the exuberant nature, the riverbank villages and the enchanting walking trails.
Caminha, culture, gastronomy and entertainment
One of Caminha’s major attractions is food, which is perfectly natural in a Minho village.
You can find an extraordinary number of restaurants that will surprise you with their top freshest ingredients, recipes and originality while preserving tradition.
The gastronomy is rich, varied, and some recipes are almost a century old, sometimes updated with a modernist twist.
“Minhota” codfish, Arga’s lamb, Lampreia, grilled sea bass and other fishes, local Barrosãs meats, pork ribs, all sorts of seafood, Caminha delivers a table feast for every taste.
And there is also the traditional pastry: leite creme, arroz-doce as deserts, and the local pastries Caminhenses, Entrançados, Telhas, Jesuítas, Sidónios and Mokas. A truly impressive offer.
The Caminha’s ArtBeerFest, an international festival of breweries and master brewers that gathers thousands of beer lovers from all over Europe, or its vibrant Medieval Fair that recreates Caminha back in the medieval times are experiences you just cannot miss.
When summer arrives, Caminha is the place to be with all its festivals and special events.
The Vilar de Mouros Festival, the oldest music festival in Portugal, bringing every year some of the greatest rock and pop bands to a small neighbouring village.
Portugal and the Minho region are also known for its religious traditions, that reflect the faith, culture, and character of its people.
Essential dates as Corpus Christy, when the main streets of the village are decorated with beautiful flower tapestries made by the locals for the procession to step on (Casa Pita has its own tapestry built every year with the help of friends) or the Easter holydays with a profusion of processions and religious moments, are some of the highlights of the religious calendar worth watching.
Also important is the fact that Caminha is part of the portuguese Camino de Santiago, so you will find pilgrams from all over the world passing by all year round.
